Professional Programs Outreach

Penn State’s School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) sees students as lifelong learners with no boundaries—geographical, cultural, societal, or otherwise. Because of this, SEDTAPP places a large focus on teaching students how to think and work critically, collectively, and concisely. Through its professional programs, which include Engineering Leadership Development, Engineering Entrepreneurship, Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship, and Engineering Design, SEDTAPP delivers effective engineering education and unrivaled research opportunities through active, collaborative, project-based, and professionally oriented experiences.

The Professional Programs Outreach (PPO) program aims to grow and enhance the school’s existing professional program offerings and develop new opportunities to leverage current and future offerings. The PPO program will review existing markets, discover new markets and modes of delivery, and develop new offerings for professionals that will help them design their future career paths through effective and efficient reskilling and upskilling.

In working with SEDTAPP’s administration, program directors, and faculty; College of Engineering and University offices, and external partners, the PPO program will define and create additional educational opportunities for current students and working professionals, creating a springboard for innovation. New offerings will include micro-credentials and digital badging, short courses offered at any Penn State campus or at a company or organization site, new online offerings through World Campus, continuing education, and professional development hour credits for professional engineers and certification preparation.
