UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Michael Archer, fintech consumer payments product innovator and business leader, recently served as a spring 2018 Bishoff Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

The Bishoff Entrepreneur-in-Residence program was established in 2003 for the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs' Engineering Entrepreneurship program. It brings successful entrepreneurs with backgrounds in engineering, design, business or manufacturing to the University Park campus for seminars, workshops and conversation with students, faculty and staff.

In late February, Archer spent two days speaking to students enrolled in multiple sections of ENGR 310: Entrepreneurial Leadership, a required course for the University’s Intercollege Minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation; ENGR 411: Business Basics for Engineers; and ENGR 415: New Venture Launch.

As a founding partner at Manhattan Innovation Lab, a consulting and investment firm that works with early-stage ventures in the financial services, consumer products and media industries, Archer helped to create, organize and launch the firm. He previously served as a partner with Kurt Salmon, where he founded and led the firm’s consumer financial services North American operation; a senior vice president and managing director with MasterCard Global Product Group; vice president of BMG Entertainment; vice president and marketing director with CitiBank International; and product and sales management with Colgate-Palmolive Company.

He has extensive strategic planning and implementation experience with new business and ventures and building high performance and successful teams.

Archer currently serves as a non-executive board member for WebTuner/Showfer Media and as the chairman of the board for The Resource Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on sustainable development in underprivileged communities.

Archer earned his BBA from the University of North Texas’ School of Business Administration and his MBA from Oklahoma City University’s Meinders School of Business.

The Bishoff Entrepreneur-in-Residence program is named for and underwritten with an endowment by E.V. Bishoff, a Pittsburgh native and long-time supporter of the College of Engineering. The program contributes to E-SHIP’s mission to develop new entrepreneurs and creative thinkers through innovation, leadership and project-based coursework.
