Global Entrepreneurship Week Penn State set for Nov. 10-14

Weeklong celebration invites community and university entrepreneurs to learn & launch

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State student innovators and community entrepreneurs are invited to explore their potential by connecting with collaborators, mentors and investors during Global Entrepreneurship Week Penn State, presented by the Penn State Small Business Development Center, Nov. 10-14, with additional events throughout the month.

GEW Penn State events will celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit in State College, on the Penn State University Park campus, and on Commonwealth Campuses and surrounding communities. The weeklong initiative has 15,000 partners in 170 countries around the world. Most GEW Penn State events are free and open to the public.

A few of the highlights during GEW Penn State will include:

"Pop Up Startups: How to Shake Up the Typical Storefront"

6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Discovery Space

Featuring Pop Up Ave founder, Brad Groznik; Brazillian Munchies founder, Flavia Barger; Still Not a Hippie founder, Pamela Luu; and State College Borough Councilman, Dan Murphy.

During this panel discussion, learn from local successful business owners who have expertise in pop-up businesses. They will discuss their successes and lessons learned and what you need to know to get started with your food truck or pop-up shop. Learn the regulations and permitting needed to comply for this rapidly expanding type of business. Sponsored by Pop Up Ave.

Veteran Entrepreneurship Presentation and Panel Discussion

6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Happy Valley LaunchBox powered by PNC Bank

Featuring Training 4 Life owner/CEO, Brad Cornali; Johnston Consulting owner/CEO, O.J. Johnston; Serviam Construction, LLC CEO, Jayme Orr Rhodes; Panko Wealth Management owner, David Panko; and Allstate Insurance owner, Eugen Weller.

The military teaches you lifelong skills, and many of these skills are transferable in becoming an entrepreneur. Effectively managing risk, operating under pressure, and being resourceful are just a few qualities needed in both business and the military. GEW Small Business Career Resource Event

9:30 am. Wednesday, Nov. 13, Nittany Lion Inn

At this student-focused event, students will have the opportunity to learn about career planning, explore career options, prepare for networking events, and review resumes and other application materials. Sponsored by PSECU.

Creating a Content Strategy

Noon, Thursday, Nov. 14, at New Leaf Initiative

Featuring radio industry pro and Mix 94.7 host, Rob Z.

This event can provide you the tools and insight needed to enhance your social media skills and take your company to the next level. Learn how to determine the social media channel best for your business, create social media content (including video), build a strategic plan to post content, and effectively advertise on social media. Additional programming

Other events designed to spark ideas in budding entrepreneurial students include a Student Startup Mixer; "Fireside Chat @ Krause: The Skills That Separate the Best Entrepreneurial Teams from the Rest"; and the mHealth Challenge.

Additional events tailored for entrepreneurs in the community include "Social Media is Everywhere. Are you?" at 3 Dots Downtown; and the "Passport to Great Food and Brews: Happy Valley AgVentures" at Maine Bay & Berry.
