UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Thomas Hartman, executive vice president (EVP) | Career Schools at CourseKey, Inc. and founder and CEO of LB&A Consulting Group, LLC, served as a spring 2018 Bishoff Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

The Bishoff Entrepreneur-in-Residence program was established in 2003 for the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs’ Engineering Entrepreneurship program. The Bishoff program brings successful entrepreneurs with backgrounds in engineering, design, business or manufacturing to the University Park campus for seminars, workshops and conversation with students, faculty and staff.

Hartman spent two days meeting and speaking with students in courses including ENGR 310: Entrepreneurial Leadership, ENGR 411: Business Basics for Engineers and ENGR 415: New Venture Launch.

Before joining CourseKey, an educational technology company that has created an interactive classroom application, Hartman was the founder and CEO of LB&A Consulting Group, LLC, a consulting firm which specializes in strategy, sales and organization development for eCommerce, wireless and digital healthcare and media firms.

Hartman has previously served as an entrepreneur-in-residence and a director for Ventana Captial Management, a venture-capital fund based in California which invests in information technology, biotechnology and renewable energy.

From 2006 – 13, Hartman served as a member of the International Education Corporation’s board of directors and as the chair of its committee. Currently, he is serving as the director and treasurer of NovaComm, a 501(c)(3) entity of EvoNexus, a tech startup incubator located in California. Hartman is also a member of the Penn State’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science’s Industrial & Professional Advisory Council.

Hartman received his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Penn State. He received an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Created in 2003, the Entrepreneur-in-Residence program is named for and underwritten with an endowment in honor of E.V. Bishoff, who was a Pittsburgh native and long-time supporter of the College of Engineering. The program contributes to the engineering entrepreneurship program's mission to develop new entrepreneurs and creative thinkers through innovation, leadership and project-based coursework.
