Annual Milking the Rhino: Innovative Solutions Showcase
Event Website: http://mtrsolutions.weebly.com/
Milking the Rhino is an award-winning documentary that examines environmental conservation from the perspective of people who live with wildlife and offers a complex, intimate portrait of two community-based conservation efforts in Kenya and Namibia. The HESE Program hosts a global competition called Milking the Rhino: Innovative Solutions Showcase. The showcase invites students to develop appropriate, innovative and sustainable solutions to empower indigenous communities to leverage wildlife and natural resources for self-determined development in Africa. Thanks to a grant from the Marjorie Grant Whiting Center for the Arts, Humanities and the Environment, we will transition the MTR-ISS from a Penn State competition to a global competition. Entries for the 2012 global competition are welcome from students from around the world and will be due in October 2012. Educational activities to assist students to prepare their entries will commence in September 2012. Visit event website for more information.
