Biography
Peter Olfs studied microwave technology at the University of Braunschweig, Germany, and joined Siemens Telecommunications Laboratories in 1965 as a development engineer for satellite communication systems. In 1970 he joined Siemens Corporate Research Laboratories as Assistant to the President of the Research Laboratories and Head of the Department for Software Basics of HLL Compilers. Siemens trails only GE and IBM in global electrical engineering and electronics with almost $100 billion in annual sales and 460,000 employees, including 70,000 in the United States and 10,000 in Pennsylvania.
Peter joined Siemens Corporate Communications in 1980 where he held a series of positions:
- Head of Trade & Technical Press Department
- Head of PR operations of Siemens Groups
- Senior Director, International Communications
- Assignment to Siemens Corporation, Corporate Communications, Washington, DC, January 1993
- Head of Corporate Communications International with special responsibility for Asia and the Americas, June 1994
Peter retired in 2002 and has remained very active in universities since then. Some of his most recent roles include:
- Associate Lecturer on International Communications and Intercultural Challenges at:
- Ludwig-Maximilians University and Technical University, Munich
- Universities for Applied Sciences Konstanz and Hannover
- Visiting speaker at Georgia Tech, Purdue, and University of Florida
- Visiting lecturer at Penn State University and Texas A&M
Peter was born in Bremen, Germany. He is married and has three children and nine grandchildren.
