Jablokow named associate chief academic officer at Great Valley

09/27/17

MALVERN, Pa. — Kathryn Jablokow, professor of engineering design and mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering, was recently appointed associate chief academic officer at Penn State Great Valley.

Jablokow, who was promoted to professor in July, will assume new administrative responsibilities while continuing to teach courses in creativity and problem-solving and serve on the regional leadership team for the undergraduate general engineering degree. She also is in the midst of conducting NSF-funded research on engineering design team performance in industry.

A member of Penn State’s faculty since 1990, Jablokow thrives on new opportunities. Only a few weeks into her role, she’s enjoying learning the strategic side of Great Valley and the University as a whole.

“I am excited to identify new directions for Great Valley,” she said. “Although we are a small campus, we have a lot of potential for growth — from increasing external funding for faculty research to expanding the reach of our REV-UP Center for Entrepreneurship.”

“I’m thrilled to have Kathryn join the academic leadership team,” said James Nemes, chancellor and chief academic officer of the Great Valley campus. “She brings a number of strengths to the position that will really help propel the campus forward.”

Working closely with Nemes, she already has begun exploring Great Valley’s role in the online MBA, Master of Professional Studies in Psychology of Leadership, and Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security offered through World Campus. She’s also started to identify REV-UP programming opportunities to engage new audiences, including K-12 aged children, women in STEM, and Penn State students across the Commonwealth.

“In recent years, I got the nickname of 'Rocket,' because of my tendency to use challenges as rocket fuel,” Jablokow added. “I seek out new possibilities and often find myself asking, ‘now what?’ I love working toward a bigger idea, so I look forward to seeing where this new role takes me.”
